The example of this piece of jewelry is a gold bracelet, which may have been used as a payment ring in such a way that a piece of gold was grabbed from the jewelry to complete the transaction. The jewelry may also have been a sacrificial gift or a memory. An old story tells that the bracelet belonged to a chieftain who lived in the Viking Age. According to the story, the captain was saved from a shipwreck, and as a token of his gratitude, he sacrificed a golden bracelet. Whether the story is true or not, almost a thousand years later the jewel was found on the shore of a lake. The bracelet comes from Metsäpirti, Karelia in Laatoka, and it is the only Viking Age (800-1050 AD) gold find in Finland
