JEWELRY STORY

Jewelry artist and sculptor Björn Weckström is Finland's most internationally known jewelry designer. The sculptural jewelry designed by Weckström in the 1960s marked a revolution in the then still very conservative jewelry world and made him world famous. Many of the silver jewelry designed by Björn Weckström have been inspired by the cold beauty of the Nordic winter. The ever-changing sculptural shapes blown by the wind have been immortalized in the jewelry, the dialogue between mirror-clear and dull matte shimmering silver brings to mind pure frozen snow and ice glinting in the winter sun. The names of several pieces of jewelry designed by Björn Weckström come from the ancient world. Styks got its name from the Styks stream in Greek mythology, which separated the world of the living from the realm of the dead.

Care instructions for silver jewelry

Kalevala silver jewelry is handcrafted in Finland from sterling silver. More than 99% of the silver we use is recycled.

Over time, all silver jewelry darkens. Darkening can be prevented by regular cleaning and proper storage of the jewelry. Dark spots can be removed with a Kalevala cleaning cloth. After cleaning, it is a good idea to wash the jewelry in mild soapy water so that the cleaning agent does not stain the clothes. The cleaning cloth is not suitable for cleaning stones set in silver jewelry.

It is good to keep the jewelry in its original packaging. Additional protection for jewelry without
against the darkening effect of impurities is provided by a tight plastic bag.
